Recognising Sisterhood
"Sisterhood is a funny thing. It is easy to recognise, but hard to define", Pearl Cleage.
In today's world, it is so easy to get caught up in our lives and to forget to put time into our relationships with one another. What is Sisterhood for us, and how do we see it right here in our program?
We do not have to go far to recognise sisterhood, it is within each and every one of us. It is in the classroom, in the workplace, between friends, and especially here in our program. In Future Heroes we are building a wholesome network of women, coaches, mentors, participants and Big Sisters are all working towards a common goal. It's to reach great impact and change the world by lifting each other up while remaining respectful, constructive, honest and kind.
Sisterhood is something we value deeply in Future Heroes and every year we have a task connected to it. This year the assignment was all about the team. All teams in the program were able to do whatever they imagined - a song, a video, a drawing. The only requirement was that it should reflect their team and the sisterhood in it.
The team Chic But Conscious:
«For this project, we knew we wanted to draw something, so our idea was to draw all of us in the same style as our logo. We made a video call for hours discussing over how to visualize our team and eventually we came to our final drawing:

We loved spending time creating it. We appreciate that we had this opportunity to bond and learn things we didn't know about each other. This taught us that even though we are different, we all have one thing in common: this project which helped us discover even more similarities among us.»*
We recognise Sisterhood when we see the wish of women to lift each other up. Sisterhood is the actions that we make in order to build a big supportive community. Sisterhood is not just the respect we have for each other, it's the bond we create and strengthen every day, among our friends, our community, and most importantly, the good habit to reach out and support each other that we create within ourselves.
